Graduate Programs - Master of Arts in Teaching with Licensure

What is the Master of Arts in Teaching with Licensure (MATL) program?

If you already have a bachelor's degree, the MATL program will grant you a master's degree and a teaching license at the 4-8, 7-12 or K-12 grade levels. The following licensure areas are offered:

Grades 4-8: Minimum of 2 areas

Language arts, math, science and social science

Grades 7-12:

English
Family and Consumer Science
Life Science
Mathematics
Physical Science
Social Studies (Arkansas history course required)

Grades K-12:

Art
Foreign Language (French, Latin or Spanish)
Kinesiology/Health
Music (Instrumental or Vocal)
Speech/Drama combination
Speech
Drama

What options do I have for completing the program?

Track I: Professional Licensure Track (35 hours)

You can teach full time while pursuing your degree. You must become eligible for and obtain a provisional license in the area of expertise in which you are seeking licensure before you begin teaching.

Track II: Traditional Student Teaching Track (35 hours)

You can follow a traditional teacher preparation program culminating with a semester of student teaching.
Important Policy Statement: Students who are participating in one of the six-credit hour student teaching classes (ECED 641, MLED 642, SEED 651, SEED 652) are considered to be full-time students.
