Freshman Retreat - September 2020

As a part of the First Year Experience program, the University College hosts the first Freshman Fall Retreat at Camp Wyldewood in early September.

Open to all freshmen, the event is an effort to help students’ transition to life at Harding while forming relationships with one another.

Previous guest speakers have included Harding alumnus B. Chris Simpson, Dean of the College of Bible and Ministry Monte Cox, and President Bruce McLarty. After a few welcome activities, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) hosts field games while students participate in break out sessions to learn general best practices on how to succeed in college. Throughout the afternoon activities, students are invited to pray with a few supplemental instruction leaders on a scenic overlook.

Don't forget about the Freshman tailgate! This activity takes place the week after Freshman Fall Retreat and is an opportunity to gather together once again to cheer on Bison football. Freshman Tailgate will be held near the club tailgates on the GAC front lawn before the game.

Freshman students reflect on the event:

"I enjoyed how they brought a good portion of the freshman class together to get to possibly meet new people and create relationships as well as creating a closer bond and relationship with God."

"I loved the overall opportunity to meet other freshmen and gain advice from the peer guides about Harding and college life."

"My favorite aspect was the devotional on B Rock. I enjoyed the experience because it was a needed break from campus and a beautiful day outdoors."
