Harding University in Australasia (HUA)

HUA is conducted annually during the Fall (September, October and November)

For 2014, the HUA semester begins with a 2-3 week tour of Australia. We begin in Sydney, a city that offers so much: museums, beautiful architecture and the world famous Sydney Opera House. We will take a tour of the Opera House, and students will attend a performance in the concert hall and attend classes. Two nights on the Great Barrier Reef, snorkeling and scuba diving are included. Two nights are spent on an outback cattle station, learning to throw a boomerang, crack a whip and mustering goats on horseback. A week of classes follows at the coast near Brisbane, with free time available for surfing and visiting an Australia zoo to hold a koala and feed a kangaroo.

A longer stay follows the tour of Australia on the south island of New Zealand (Queenstown).  It is here that many of the classes will be conducted and the area also provides marvelous outdoor recreational activities.  Students and faculty live in apartments facing Lake Wakatipu, a long thin Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes, and surrounded by beautiful mountains. Classes are taken in the Resort College.

From New Zealand we will travel to Southeast Asia with an emphasis on Cambodia and Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.  In Cambodia, students will work with the Snack Program that feeds malnourished children of Cambodia in the Mekong Delta.  Along the way the students learn about the culture, history, language and literature of the country.  One other country will be visited before moving onward to complete the program in China.
