Cassius (1853-1931), a formerly enslaved person, emerged as a noteworthy Black leader in Churches of Christ. He contested race hatred in the broader community and in the Church.

 

10:00 AM     Marshall Keeble and Race Relations in Churches of Christ.

In the 1930s, Keeble (1878-1968) became the most celebrated Black preacher in Churches of Christ as he navigated the troubled waters of racial segregation in the United States. His faith and fortitude can be both instructive and inspiring for us today.

 

11:00 AM      Jack Evans, Sr. and Race Relations in Churches of Christ. 

A native Texan, Evans (1932-2019) became one of the most powerful preachers in African American Churches of Christ. As president of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas, he left a lasting imprint on countless young preachers in Churches of Christ.
