The Master of Science in applied dietetics practice program at Harding University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This program is the first of its kind in Arkansas and is one of the few programs that are competency-based, allowing students to complete courses while being required to complete supervised learning experiences online. Students are able to apply knowledge and skills directly within their communities and professional work settings while applying Christian principles in nutrition and dietetics to pursue their inspired purpose.

Experiential Learning

Opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge and skills learned from didactic courses into real-life practice.
Supervised experiential learning courses in professional work settings: foodservice, clinical and community and public health nutrition.
Students will be responsible for locating sites and preceptors under the guidance and direction of the program.
Given experiences for preceptors to supervise and guide student learning experiences and for students to collaborate with preceptors in efforts to achieve professional competency in nutrition and dietetics.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in their state and local affiliates.

Interprofessional Activities

Students can participate in interprofessional activities with other Harding University graduate students in the College of Allied Health.

Behavioral health and eating disorder centers

A Master of Science in applied dietetics practice equips graduates with the specialized knowledge and skills to work in behavioral health and eating disorder centers. Using their strong foundation in nutritional science, therapeutic interventions and counseling techniques, dietitians to support individuals struggling with eating disorders and other behavioral health issues.

Clinical settings: Hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers and long-term care

Graduates are well-prepared to work in various clinical settings that include applied dietetics. The program's emphasis on medical nutrition therapy, clinical assessment and patient-centered care equips dietitians to manage the nutritional needs of patients with acute and chronic conditions.

Coaching and private practice groups

A Master of Science in Applied Dietetic Practice prepares graduates to offer personalized nutrition and wellness services to a diverse clientele. This program equips dietitians with advanced skills in nutritional counseling, behavior change strategies and business management, enabling them to run successful private practices or serve as nutrition coaches.
