Kinesiology and Sport Administration at Harding

This Master of Science in kinesiology and sport administration is a 30-hour program. Complete courses 100% online or take up to 50% of courses on ground. It is designed to help further the careers of current professionals in the areas of physical education, coaching and sport– especially teachers and coaches– while they work full time.

A Christian Perspective

The mission of the Harding University Department of Kinesiology is to prepare Christian professionals for careers in teaching, coaching and sport and recreation administration. The department fosters the development of spiritual, physical, social, emotional, clinical and culturally diverse skills to enhance the human behavior and well-being of all populations.

A flexible program

This program was designed to be flexible for part- or full-time students. Students can finish in as little as 3 semesters or take up to six semesters to complete the program. Students can start in the fall, spring, or summer semesters. All courses are offered online, but some are offered on ground if needed.

Further preparation in kinesiology, physical education, coaching, and sport administration

This program is specifically designed for those professionals in the Kinesiology, physical education, coaching, and sport administration fields so that they can advance in these areas. The instruction from the courses comes from doctoral level professionals who are working in various fields.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete the online application.
  • Request official transcripts* be sent directly from previous institutions to admissions@harding.edu.
  • Request two letters of recommendation.
  • Upload a resume and statement of purpose.
  • Submit immunization records (former Harding students do not need to do this, as their records are already on file)
  • Pay application fee

*Note: Harding alumni and current students do not need to request Harding transcripts as they are on file.

 

ADDITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5, or 2.75 on your last 60 hours.
  • Applicants with less than a 2.50 GPA can appeal to the Kinesiology Graduate committee for provisional acceptance.

 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Students who (1) speak English as a second language, and have (2) not previously completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited American college or university must meet a minimum score on a nationally recognized test of English language proficiency such as the TOEFL or IELTS. However, in lieu of these exams, professional programs in the health sciences may assess such students with an interview and/or a writing exam.

Minimum TOEFL scores acceptable for admission to the university are 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (Internet-based test). The minimum IELTS score is 6.0. Scores must not be older than two years prior to the date of application to the University. Please note that individual programs may have more stringent minimum requirements.

50% of the classes can be taken online, while the other 50% must be taken on-ground.

Each student will have the opportunity to complete a 235 hour internship or write a master’s thesis. Both of these opportunities are designed to allow each student to showcase what they have learned in the master’s program. The thesis will allow for direct involvement with the master’s faculty and the internship will be tailored to fit each student’s career goals.

What can you do with a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Administration?

Sports administration

In sports administration, a master's degree in kinesiology and sport administration from Harding University equips professionals with the knowledge to excel in managing sports organizations. The program offers training in sports management, including finance, marketing and event planning. Graduates are prepared to oversee operations, develop strategic plans and handle the complexities of sport business, ensuring efficient and effective management. This degree also emphasizes the spiritual and ethical aspects of sport, fostering well-rounded leaders who can navigate the multifaceted world of sports administration.

Teach at the college level

To teach at the college level (2 or 4 years), you are required to have 18 hours of content-specific graduate hours. This Masters program includes 24 hours in various aspects of Kinesiology, coaching, and sport administration. There is also a research component that allows students to focus specifically on an
approved topic.

Coach at multiple levels (junior high through college)

This Masters program has a focus on coaching at high levels as you learn from some of the Harding Bison current and former coaches.
