Teacher Preparation

Students should consider studying elementary education at Harding University because it offers a Christ-centered, academically rigorous program that prepares future educators to teach with both competence and compassion. With a strong emphasis on hands-on experience, students gain early and frequent exposure to classroom settings, allowing them to put theory into practice. Harding’s faculty are experienced professionals who mentor students personally, fostering both professional growth and spiritual development. Teacher candidates will finish their degrees with a year-long residency placement that prepares them to be day-one ready once they graduate.

College of Education NYC Experience

Students in the College of Education can participate in a seven- day trip to New York City between New Year’s Day and the start of the spring semester.  This trip allows for the study of education’s historic and contemporary roles in formation of a shared national experience, as well as personal identity, an American middle class and a national ethos of individualism and opportunity. Special emphasis is given to themes of immigration, Free and Public Education, literacy and English as a Second Language, and the evolution of public schools.

Honor society

Kappa Delta Pi honor society promotes excellence in and recognizes outstanding contributions to education. This society endeavors to maintain a high degree of professional fellowship among its members, quicken professional growth and honor achievement in educational work.

With an elementary education degree from Harding University, graduates are well-prepared for a wide range of career opportunities in education and beyond. Most commonly, they become certified to teach in elementary schools (grades K–6), where they lead classrooms and design instruction that meets diverse student needs. Thanks to Harding’s strong emphasis on leadership, character and service, graduates are also equipped to pursue roles such as reading specialists, instructional coaches, or curriculum developers.

Work in Educational Support Roles

With a degree in elementary education , you can work as a reading specialist, instructional coach, or curriculum coordinator. These roles involve supporting both students and teachers by improving teaching strategies and ensuring effective learning outcomes.

Pursue A Graduate Degree in Educational Administration or a Specialist Certification

With a degree in Elementary Education you can pursue a graduate degree and use that as a stepping stone toward roles in school administration and specialist positions. With additional experience or education, you could work as a principal, district administrator, or education consultant, influencing how schools operate and how children learn on a broader scale.
