Eclipse Events

On-Campus Events Schedule

We’re excited about the total solar eclipse on April 8, and several events have been planned from April 5-9 to commemorate this historic day.

Cash will be required for purchases at all events.

Eclipse glasses will be provided for all who attend.

At 7:00 p.m. in McInteer 225, join the Archaeology Club as Dr. Daniel Oden will be discussing "An Eclipse and Biblical Chronology".

The ancient Assyrians noted a solar eclipse on what we would call June 15, 763 BC, which serves as a major start-point by which the chronologies of the Old Testament period (and the Ancient Near East in general) are calculated. There were also peculiar activities that the Assyrians performed because of their superstitions of the possible political implications of such eclipses.

Dr. Oden has a Ph.D. from NYU and has studied Akkadian, the language in which the Assyrian information was written
