• Membership in a social club is open to any student who is in good standing with the University.

• You may join at any point during your time as a Harding student. 

• Most of our clubs only accept new members during the fall semester through the campus-wide recruitment process, but a select few offer flexible membership year round.

• All Prospective New Members (sometimes referred to as PNMs) must formally apply for the social club process. This can be done in Pipeline, and the application will close at the end of second round mixers.

  • Pipeline > Student > Social Clubs > Apply for the Social Club Process.

• Dues typically range from $30-70 per semester. This amount may fluctuate depending on club size and upcoming needs.

• As a new member, you will have Club Week dues to help offset the cost of new members.

• All functions, merch drops, club jersey orders and other opportunities throughout the semester are priced individually, and you are not required to pay or purchase items throughout.

• Payment plans are offered on an individual basis. Please discuss this with your club sponsors upon joining.

 GENERAL INFORMATION

• Officer Open House: Join up to six officers from each club on the front lawn for a casual, get-to-know-you gathering with each group. 

  • There is no theme or dress code; come as you are. 

• All-Club Open House: Spread over two nights, join the clubs in the Ganus Activities Complex for a casual environment of meeting all active club members

  • There is no theme or dress code; come as you are. 

  • Both officer and all-club open houses are organized and planned by the Office of Campus Life.

• First Round and Second Mixers: Each club is required to host two mixers — open, informal gatherings where club members and applicants can get to know each other. These mixers must be held on campus, may be themed for members and applicants to dress accordingly, and should be an hour and a half in duration. 

• Third Round Mixers: Third-round mixers provide a more personal, focused environment for club members and applicants to engage in meaningful conversations and build deeper connections before the final voting process.

  • Applicants may attend all third-round mixers for which they receive an invitation. Just like the first two rounds, these mixers are also required to be held on campus, last an hour and a half, and often feature a creative or themed element that encourages fun interaction while allowing club members to get to know prospective new members in a relaxed yet intentional setting.

Visitation: The Club Week Visitation is a meeting held prior to Club Week. Visitation offers applicants the opportunity to engage with clubs, ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of the club culture and community expectations. Participation in Visitation is an important step in preparing for Club Week and is expected of all applicants continuing in the process.

• Attending open houses and mixers for clubs is the baseline for joining a social club.

  • You are likely to receive invitations to dinners, club devotionals, Sonic runs, intramural game attendance and other events that are outside of open houses and mixers. While attending these events will not guarantee a bid to join, you will likely have a higher chance of receiving a bid.

• Attending recruitment events for several social clubs is highly encouraged. Each club has its own personality, and it can change each year. Visiting with clubs is the easiest way to find your fit.

  • Sometimes, students who experience disappointment at the end of the recruitment process are those who placed all of their focus on one particular club from the very beginning. Approaching the process with an open mind and allowing yourself to genuinely explore multiple clubs can lead to meaningful connections and a better overall experience.

• After second round mixers, clubs will vote on who they want to invite to third round mixers. After third round mixers, they will vote on who they wish to extend a Visitation invite to.

• All voting discussions and outcomes are to remain strictly confidential and limited to the club's members only. Clubs found to be openly discussing voting results, applicant status or related conversations outside of the club may be subject to disciplinary action.

Potential New Members should follow the procedure below for ranking clubs:

1. Access Pipeline and click on the Social Club link.
2. Click on the Applicant Voting link.
3. The Applicant Voting page will list all clubs.
4. Applicants must rank at least five clubs, with one being the club most preferred. 
5. Once the clubs have been ranked in order of preference, click the “Submit” button.
6. The applicant will view their rankings and will have a certain amount of time to make changes.

If a student has any questions or concerns about his or her ranking not being submitted correctly, he or she should contact

immediately for verification or alternate methods of ranking.

• Following club voting and student rankings, designated members from the Office of Campus Life and the Office of Student Life work to match the votes and the rankings with one another.

• This process can take several days to ensure the best placements are made for both clubs and Potential New Members.

• Once club placement has been determined, the list of new members is shared with club officers. Potential New Members who receive a Visitation invite will receive an email from the club.

  • You may only receive one Visitation invite.

  • Receiving a Visitation invite means there is a strong likelihood you will receive a bid to join that social club, but it is not a guarantee.

• If a Potential New Member is not placed on any clubs’ lists, they will be added to a list to receive an invitation to the Open Fourth Round Mixer. Anyone who did not receive a Visitation invite is welcome to attend the Open Fourth Round Mixer.

• For clubs offering flexible membership, a Fourth Round Mixer will be held in the Mabee Business Building the week before Club Week. This mixer is for prospective new members to meet the clubs offering flexible membership. The goal is to give these students the chance to explore clubs they may not previously have considered.

• Invitations to attend will be extended to students who applied to the social club process but did not receive an invitation to the clubs they had visited, and attendance is optional. It is only required for those who wish to join a social club that semester. 

  • Should a potential new member not receive a Visitation invite, and also choose to not attend the Fourth Round Mixer, they are effectively withdrawing themselves from the social club process.

• Bids for social club membership will be distributed to prospective members on Sunday afternoon, prior to the start of Club Week. 

• Each bid is to be addressed to the student and include his or her residence hall and room number for delivery directly to his or her door by club members who are active participants in the InterClub Council. 

  • Bids for new male members living off-campus will be delivered to the Armstrong Hall front desk, and bids for new female members living off-campus will be delivered to the Sears Hall front desk.

• Following a required new member meeting at 6 p.m. in the Anthony and Wright Administration Building Auditorium, each club will host its induction ceremony between 6:30-10 p.m. on the evening of bid delivery. Induction is designed to welcome new members in a way that reflects the mission and values of Harding University. This ceremony serves as an important introduction to the club’s purpose, traditions and community.

• Activities may include a devotional, presentations on the club’s history, motto, song, verse, colors and cheers as well as messages about the significance of club membership. Clubs will remain in their designated spaces for the entire ceremony. By the end of the evening, new members have been formally inducted into the social club and are prepared to begin Club Week activities.

• In the week following induction, clubs may organize approved events and activities that celebrate new members and encourage community-building among all members. All activities must align with the mission, vision and values of Harding University and the purpose of social clubs.

• All Club Week activities must be thoughtfully planned and submitted for approval. Each club will meet individually with the Director of Campus Life to review and discuss their proposed schedule.

• During the day, the campus should maintain the same atmosphere as any regular day, with focus on chapel, classes and normal operations in these areas. 

• Unless otherwise obligated to athletic practice, labs, work shifts, or similar activities, all new members should plan to attend all Club Week events. Planning ahead for academic obligations, such as studying for tests, is important preparation for Club Week. 

  • Only attending Sunday night’s induction ceremony does not signify membership to a social club. 

The schedule for Club Week, for all clubs, is below.

• Sunday 6 p.m., New Member Meeting

• Sunday 6:30-10 p.m., Induction Ceremonies

• Monday 5-10 p.m. | All-Club Devotional, 10 p.m.

• Tuesday 5-10 p.m. | All-Club Devotional, 10 p.m.

• Wednesday per Director of Campus Life approval

• Thursday 5-10 p.m. | All-Club Devotional, 10 p.m.

• Friday 7 p.m.-curfew (no overnight) 

  • All-Club Meeting and Dinner in the Caf, 6 p.m. Clubs may choose to meet from 5-6 p.m., prior to the required dinner, with the approval of the Director of Campus Life.

• Open Houses

  • Officer Open House is two hours; All-Club Open House is 1.5 hours on two separate nights. (5 hours total)

• Mixers

  • First, second, and third round mixers may not exceed 1.5 hours in duration for each round. (up to 4.5 hours per club)

• Visitation

  • Like mixers, Visitation may not exceed 1.5 hours in duration. 

• Induction Ceremony and Club Week

  • Unless you have previous obligations, such as job shifts or official Harding activities, your presence is required at all events during Club Week. This will look like approximately 25-30 hours.

• After the Friday night of Club Week concludes, you are officially a member! There are no additional membership steps or requirements to be taken.

• Clubs meet on Monday nights, typically at 9 p.m., and most clubs have attendance requirements for all members. These vary in length but are usually no longer than one hour.

• Participation in functions, spiritual retreats, merch drops, service projects, etc. are entirely optional and up to the individual. There are no requirements or expectations for members once they have joined a social club.

  • Some individual clubs may have expectations for their members; refer to club constitutions if you have questions.

• Students are expected to maintain the highest standards of morality, integrity, orderliness and personal honor. Harding University upholds state laws regarding hazing and considers hazing to be in conflict with her mission and, therefore, strictly prohibited.

  • It is the responsibility of every member, new and active, to uphold the standards outlined in this handbook. This includes stepping up when you see something wrong. If any inappropriate or unsafe activity is witnessed or experienced, it should be reported immediately to the appropriate University office. Failing to report may also result in consequences; everyone has a role in protecting the well-being of the Harding community.

    • Any concerns should be directed to the Office of Student Life (501-279-4331) and/or the Office of Public Safety (501-279-5000).

• In keeping with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, Harding University will publish information involving a student club, group or organization for which a finding or responsibility is issued relating to a hazing violation.

• The Harding University Anti-Hazing Policy Agreement, which includes University anti-hazing policy and Arkansas Hazing Law, must be read and signed each year by members, sponsors and applicants. The signed Anti-Hazing Agreements will be emailed to each individual. Failure to do so makes a student ineligible to participate in the social club process.

  • Only individuals who have completed and signed the required agreement may participate in Club Week activities. Anyone found present at an activity without signing this document will face immediate disciplinary action, including possible removal from the event and additional sanctions. The club involved may face consequences, which may include suspension of activities or loss of privileges.

  • All club members, sponsors and applicants must familiarize themselves with current state and federal hazing laws. Any violation may result in disciplinary action against the individual and/or the club.
