The Department of Applied Human Sciences provides a holistic study of human well-being, family dynamics and community vitality. Through a blend of evidence-based research, hands-on experiential learning, and values-driven leadership, students are equipped to educate, advocate and lead in a variety of professional settings.
The accelerated B.S./M.S. pathway is for qualified undergraduate students, allowing them to complete both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in applied dietetics practice in five years. Students will complete liberal arts credits and prerequisites during their first three years and finish the same graduate program curriculum in years four and five.
Taking a holistic approach to a child’s physical, socio-emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth, this program uses evidence-based practices to prepare students to work effectively with children and families. Beyond preparing graduates for immediate careers in early intervention and advocacy, it serves as an ideal academic launchpad for advanced graduate studies in applied behavior analysis and pediatric occupational therapy.
This specialized program focuses on child development and family systems to teach students how to help children cope with difficult circumstances through play, preparation, and self-expression. It features targeted coursework for clinical hospital settings, court and foster care systems, trauma teams, and grief support, directly preparing graduates to become Certified Child Life Specialists. This degree plan is the only program in Arkansas to be officially endorsed by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
The child life major is endorsed by the Association of Child Life Professionals. This recognition assures that the program meets the requirements set forth in the ACLP’s Standards for Academic and Clinical Preparation Programs, confirming that the program’s structure, curriculum, resources, support system, and sustainability are of the highest quality. Students can be confident that coursework meets ACLP certification requirements, enabling them to apply for and take the exam to become a Certified Child Life Specialist.
This interdisciplinary program blends communication, social work, public policy, and business to equip students as strategic leaders and social advocates. Through hands-on service learning, students learn to design and implement initiatives that measurably improve community well-being, preparing them for careers in public service, nonprofit management, and public policy.

As an NCFR-approved program, it offers a streamlined path to becoming a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE), preparing graduates for careers in family support, parenting education, and community outreach.
Integrating nutritional science with a values-based approach, this comprehensive program prepares students for leadership roles across clinical settings, public health, and the food service industry. It provides the essential, rigorous academic foundation required for students pursuing careers as registered dietitian nutritionists. Students have the option of applying to the accelerated program in Applied Dietetics Practice.
