HU Native American Studies (HUN)

HUN provides students with active, hands-on learning experiences by exploring Native American cultures and the beauty of God’s creation in national parks and monuments and Native American sites while engaging in outdoor recreation opportunities in the southwestern United States.

The main objectives of HUN are to:

 

Academic Benefit

Students will earn seven hours of credit, choosing from Native American Studies (HUM 2730), Hiking and Backpacking (KINS 1330), Earth Science (PHS 1010), and Sociology (SOC 2030) to count toward liberal arts requirements. Wilderness First Aid (HED 2050) and Outdoor Living Skills (RECR 3500) will also be offered.

 

Availability

This four-week intersession program begins immediately following the spring semester and is open to 12-16 students in good academic standing who can meet the physical demands of the program. Students will be primitive camping, hiking and doing other outdoor recreational activities during the trip.
