Department of Music

Musical Excellence, Christian Commitment

Harding University delivers academic excellence in a distinctly Christian environment.  As a music major, the Department of Music will provide you with abundant performance opportunities in a wide variety of ensembles, including bands, choirs, orchestra, and chamber and popular music groups.  Whether you want to be a performer, teacher, composer, music therapist or music entrepreneur, we have a top-quality program that will prepare you well and set you on the right path.

We will mentor you as we integrate Christian values with your developing professional skills, encouraging your success the entire way.  From the start, you will find Harding's academic and music scholarships are both generous and competitive.  What is more, we offer you many life-changing experiences that are not found just anywhere.  For example, the Arts and Life Performance Series provides opportunities for you to learn from and perform with world-class artists and ensembles, such as the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra; and because we house the Searcy Community School of Music, our students are able to earn a salary while learing to teach private and group lessons right in our own facilities.  Many music students are drawn to Harding because of our international travel opportunities, such as the Mostly Music program in Europe or tours with our ensembles through Global Outreach.

Our students are engaged in all areas of campus life. In 2017 and 2018, the Wall Street Journal listed as Harding as one of the top ten schools in the country in two categories:  inspiration and engagement.  That means we don't just teach subjects; we teach people.  Our small class sizes, one-on-one lessons, and everyday concern for our students aid us in forging strong relationships between our students and faculty.  At Harding we will encourage and equip you to examine your goals, resources and potential, while we help train and direct you toward your inspired purpose.
