Music Scholarships

Departmental Scholarships

The Department of Music awards generous annual scholarships to both music and non-music majors based on performance ability, academic record and professional promise. Scholarship contracts are for four years and require academic progress and full ensemble participation according to terms stipulated in the contract.  Music majors must continue their pursuit of a degree in music.

University Scholarships

All prospective students should take the time to learn about Harding's general scholarship information. Contact the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible to obtain vital information about federal, state, and university scholarships, grants and loans.

Music scholarships may be combined with other forms of financial aid in an amount not to exceed the cost of full tuition.

Auditions

Our primary audition date for PROSPECTIVE MUSIC MAJORS is:

Saturday, March 8, 2025

Our primary audition date for PROSPECTIVE NON-MUSIC MAJORS (ensemble participation) is:

Saturday, March 15, 2025

Applicants are welcome to audition on more than one instrument. If your primary interest is music composition, you are also invited to come for an audition and/or interview.

Before you audition, you will have time to warm up with your accompanist. We can provide the accompanist if needed. After you sing or play all or part of your prepared music (we'll help you decide), we will take a moment for you to do a little sight reading (solfege or any other method is fine). Lastly, we will visit with you to learn more about your background and career plans.

If you are unable to come for March 8th or March 15th, we will gladly arrange an audition date that fits your schedule. If distance or other circumstances make it impossible or unwise for you to travel to Searcy, we are pleased to accept a digital recording for your audition, and we will make arrangements with you for an online interview. Please keep in mind that most scholarships will be awarded by April 1, 2025.

While you are with us, prospective music majors will complete a brief music fundamentals placement exam,  and we will assess your piano skills. Should you need to audition virtually by submitting a recording, we will meet with you online for sight reading and a chat. We will take care of the fundamentals and piano assessments later.

Once your audition application is received (link above), we can help you decide what sort of music to prepare, if necessary. Remember to submit your Harding University application for admission in advance of your audition. In most cases, you will also want to send your music to the Department of Music before your audition. Students who wish to focus on composition should submit a portfolio of no more than three representative works. Our administrative assistant can help answer any questions you have (music@harding.edu).
