Born and raised in the Churches of Christ, Garrett Smith attended Harding and learned that theological work is best done among friends. He went on to complete a master’s degree in theology at Wheaton College where I met his wife, Sydney. They are both working on doctoral degrees: hers in counseling education and supervision at Regent University and his in theology at the University of Dayton. Alongside Garrett’s studies, he also teaches undergraduate courses on faith, suffering and Christian health care ethics. His main research retrieves early theologies of death to address contemporary questions of Christian mortality.
