Advertising

Welcome

Welcome to the wonderful world of advertising. Advertising provides a monetary stream to all of the other mass communication mediums in a strategic, creative and fun way! In our advertising program, students learn how to design, write and produce advertisements for every form of media.

Before any professional advertising practitioner creates an ad, there is a process of learning various factors of an ad’s success. Students in this program learn to market a product or service by identifying objectives of messages, targeting a specific audience, developing a creative and convincing story, and knowing which medium to use for best results. Students majoring in advertising learn how to be professional copywriters, slogan crafters, graphic designers and digital media production artists. Learn more about the program by viewing the major's required courses.

Jobs, publications and on-campus work opportunities

Students majoring in advertising have opportunities to create ads and media delivery for various business and organizations both on and off campus.

Pivot Creative Studio: Pivot Creative Studio is a student-run full-service creative agency within the Department of Communication. This organization provides services such as rebranding, strategic planning, photography, videography, logo or slogan creation, content creation, and web or social media presence to a variety of clients.

Learning opportunities outside the classroom

All advertising majors are required to complete at least one professional internship. Additionally, advertising majors expand their portfolio by working in all aspects of student media including the Bison newspaper, Petit Jean yearbook, HU16 news and sports, and KVHU radio.
