Students in the Department of Communication have a number of opportunities to work for scholarships and pay on student media staffs. This is the primary way students earn money and scholarships through the department. The following is a list of student media and auxiliary offices affiliated with the department that offer paid or scholarship positions.
Bison newspaper & Petit Jean yearbook
Positions include editor in chief, page editors, copy editors, online editors, photographers, graphic designers and business managers. Applications for these positions are available in the spring semester for the following year. Scholarships range from $250 to $2,000 per semester. For more information, contact Mrs. Fatula.
HU16
Positions are available for our weekday live newscast and other TV programming, including Harding sports and other student-produced specials. These positions include producers, assistant producers, directors, technical directors, videographers, video editors, TV hosts, news anchors, weather anchors, sports anchors and reporters. Scholarships range from $200 to $1,000 per semester. Applications are available at the beginning of each semester, and auditions are held for all on-air positions. VideoWorks
Hourly-paid positions for this auxiliary arm of the department include video editors, photographers, graphic designers and other assistants. Applications for these positions are available at the beginning of each semester. Pay is based on current student-work wages. For more information, contact Mr. Prior.
Debate Team
Debate team members receive scholarships ranging from $500-$2,000 over the course of two semesters to prepare for and represent the University at regional and national tournaments. For more information contact Dr. Garner.
Harding Sports Network
Students produce over 150 sporting events on campus each season. Students fill positions such as directing, producing, camera operators, editing, and provide on camera reporting and commentary on various Harding sports events. Games are carried on HU16 and streamed at streaming.harding.edu. In addition to live sports events, students produce programs like Midnight Madness and Harding Football with Paul Simmons.
